We'll Compost the Mess!
According to the EPA, an estimated 1.3 BILLION pumpkins are thrown out in the US every year following Halloween. The environmental impact that has is equivalent to the release of 1.8 trillion pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere. Smashing pumpkins is not only a way to blow off some steam, but a great opportunity to keep all that autumn decoration out of the landfill. By composting these pumpkin remnants, we'll not only help decrease methane emissions, but also help to enrich the soil, creating nutrient-dense compost that can be used to enhance local community gardens and green spaces.
